What has happened to Saturday Night Live? It used to be something to look forward to if you didn’t make plans to go out on your Saturdays. The whole purpose of the show is to be funny, and yet we’re lucky if they manage one skit out of the whole hour that makes you even smirk. The cast is pathetic for the most part, especially Kenan Thompson. How does a show that has employed the greats of comedy like, Dana Carvey, Steve Martin, Mike Meyers, Molly Shannon, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, and Will Ferrell-then chose some annoying guy from Nickelodeon?! Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure Thompson is a sweetheart, but he’s just simply not funny.

The show slowly gets worse. Even Andy Samberg who was funny in the beginning has been more obnoxious than funny lately. He’s the one who started “SNL Digital Shorts” that were really funny in the beginning, and now they’re so out there and dumb, you’d think he’s doing drugs when he puts them together.

They used to have regular skits and characters like Church Lady (Dana Carvey), Spartan Cheerleaders Ariana and Craig (Cheri Oteri and Will Ferrell), Catholic school student Mary Katherine Gallagher (Molly Shannon), that were so funny and you couldn’t wait to see the next skit. They have nothing now. I will say Weekend Update with Seth Meyers is sometimes good still.

Anyway last night the host was Paul Rudd with musical guest Beyonce. Paul is a good actor, but the writing was so horrible and the skits were so stupid. As with most television, SNL has always been a little perverted-it makes people laugh. But last night’s episode was just disgusting for the most part and it was as though the show’s goal was to shock you rather than make you laugh. It just amazes me what Lorne Michaels, the shows creator, is thinking in letting this happen. The only good part of the whole show was when Justin Timberlake made a couple of appearances. That’s so sad that with all the writers and cast, one guy makes the whole show. He also did a skit with Beyonce that was hysterical! Click on this link to watch the video! It is so good!

It also has been announced Amy Poehler, who recently had a baby, is no longer a cast member. They have hired two new females Abby Elliott and Michaela Watkins. Hopefully these two will come with some talent, but I think new writers is what the show needs also. After watching last night it left me wondering: I know there are soo many funny people in the world…how can Saturday Night Live not find them?!
