On a day that I have nothing to do, I find it fun to go look at model homes to get decorating ideas. At one home I saw some very nice rugs hanging from a metal rod (as a wall decoration). It looked so beautiful. I thought about what I could do to get the same effect, but on a budget. Since fancy rugs can get very costly, I came up with an great idea…use two fancy towels and sew them together. I did just that. I found two really nice towels at Marshalls that looked kinda oriental and fancy. I sewed them together and then sewed little black pieces of fabric from the top of one side (so I could hang it). I then slid the rod through the loop holes I had made and there it was, a beautiful wall hanging. The towels cost me $7.99 each and the rod I found at Target for under $15. I think it looks pretty nice for being so inexpensive. Plus I get a lot of compliments on it and when I tell people it is made of towels, people give me a surprised look.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I love to shop and I love to find deals. Well, another great find I found were these dark wooded plate chargers. Since I didn’t have a formal dining room anymore I didn’t have need for the plate charges anymore. The creativeness in me took over to find a new home and use for the neglected plate chargers. I came across these wall hangings (shown in center of photos). I took the attached wall hooks off the back of the plaster wall hangings. I then used wood glue to glue the wall hangings to the center of the wooden plate chargers. Then I added a little metal wall hanger to the back of the plate charger so I could hang it on the wall. It was so simple and it really made the original wall hangings look more stunning. There are multiple uses for everything!

I love to shop and I love to find deals. Well, one of my deals were some curtain tie-backs. I thought that maybe one day I would use them, considering they were so cheap. After a few years of holding on to them, I was tempted to throw them away. Then it came to me…why not use them to hang my jewelry from? I went and got my husbands drill and screws and within minutes I had created a fabulous place to hang all my jewelry! I love it! It makes it so easy to see all my rings, necklaces, bracelets, and watches. You could do this with key chain holders too.

Make use of the things you have! You don’t always have to use every product for its intended use. BE CREATIVE!

Want to know a clever trick I used to make my ottoman look like a gorgeous oversized ottoman, like the ones you see at fancy restaurants or hotels? Well my trick is to just stick 2 rectangle ottomans next to one another. Then just cover up the seem with a large blanket. Drape it from one corner of the 2 ottomans to the other kitty corner of the ottomans. Viola! You have a gorgeous oversized ottoman. You can top it of with a nice piece on top of the blanket. People will ask you where you found a huge ottoman like that and only you will know the secret!

I had an old kitchen table that I was going to get rid of because I had a new table coming. My old table was still cute, but small. I sometimes get attached to my furniture and have a hard time giving it away. So, I thought, hmmmm, what can I do with this table? If I put it outside the sun would ruin it because it is wood. I then noticed in my kitchen I had some extra space under my two windows. I figured I could cut my old table in half, length wise, and make it into two make-shift buffet tables. So we did just that. We used “L” brackets to attach the table to the wall from underneath the table. I get so many compliments on it and it is perfect for entertaining and using as a buffet table. A very simple idea that makes a huge statement and super functional.

I just got a new coffee table and want to get rid of my old one. I am thinking I will do the same thing (cut it in half) and use it as a small table in one of my children’s bedroom. Once you start, the possibilities are endless.
